Hi everyone! I recently did an article for a small news paper here in Dublin on certain diets (low cal and low fat) that include processed, chemical filled foods. I think a lot of people still find it confusing with the crazy amounts of different diets out there at the moment. One food philosophy that I have after many years is to not count calories. There is no point to counting calories if you are eating a diet that is rich of whole and unprocessed foods. By counting calories you are restricting yourself by eating “low calorie”/ unhealthy versions of foods. It is fine to eat lower calories foods, but a lot of the “low calorie” foods out there would by highly processed, filled with additives and preservatives, and generally just terrible for our digestion system.
One snack that I have been making recently are no bake protein balls! These are so easy to make and are perfect for on the go. I eat them as a snack at work, on the go before a run, for my post workout, and any time that I am feeling peckish without having to get a pre package granola bar.
What you need:
3/4 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup almond butter
¼ cup ground flax seed or ground chia seeds
1 tablespoon maple syrup
½ teaspoon cinnamon
What to do:
Mix together almond butter and maple syrup first.
In a bowl mix together oats, flax seed and cinnamon. Add almond butter mixture and stir until fully combined. Roll into 1 inch balls. (I always use my hands for these, it’s a lot easier!)
